Description
BELGIUM – Close to 2,000 Different, Dawn of Philately to 1990s – While in World Wars Belgium tries to stay neutral and gets overrun, in philately it is well established and entrenched as one of the pillar countries within the European subsection. This is a worthy BELGIUM collection of close to two thousand different issues covering a century and a half from the very dawn of philately into the last decade of the 20th century, presented in a Minkus album. The collection is put together by a dedicated collector and, while it includes early period highlights like used #2, 4, 6-8, 9-12, 13-16, 23-26b, 31, among others, what really stands out is the myriads of minor color and perforation varieties stacked right next to or underneath the main ones, reflecting specialist-level attention to detail.
Furthermore, the collection includes a solid showing once it gets into the first half of the 20th century, showcasing early semi-postal and airmail issues that add significant catalog value. This very solid foundation packed with value is perfect for the collector looking to add Belgium to a European portfolio and build upon it, or for the dealer or accumulator seeking comprehensive Belgian material with variety study potential. Condition throughout is generally Very Fine, mint original gum. Note that only perhaps half of the lot through mid-century has been photographed.
