Description
This lot brings together a substantial group of examples from the 1901 Pan-American Exposition issue, Scott CV 294-99, spanning all six denominations of the set. The one cent steamship, two cent locomotive, four cent automobile, five cent bridge at Niagara Falls, eight cent canal locks, and ten cent fast ocean navigation designs are all represented, with the majority of stamps in mint condition and several carrying never hinged gum. The set holds a notable place in postal history as the first United States commemorative series printed in two colors, and it was issued to mark the Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo, New York in 1901.
Condition throughout this accumulation ranges from fine to extra fine and superb, with grades noted piece by piece. The lot includes a mix of singles, pairs, and blocks of four, along with a couple of pieces carrying certificates from recognized expertizing services and at least one example noted for a distinctive printing variety. A collector working to complete a Pan-American set will find strong material here across every value in the series, while an accumulator will appreciate the range of formats, gum conditions, and centering present in the group.
