RUSSIA – EXPANSIVE COLLECTION IN TWO MINKUS ALBUMS 1858-1991 – About 5,000 Different – This is one massive RUSSIA collection of some 5,000 different mint and used issues tracing postal history from Imperial Russia through the collapse of the Soviet Union, presented in a pair of Minkus albums. The collection includes a solid early period section featuring noteworthy standouts like mint #5, 11, 66, used #7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 88-104, but the collection goes into higher gear from the 1930s as pages become much more comprehensively populated, showcasing premium sets like mint #330-335, 336-341, 402-405, 659-665, 857-858, 970, 1094-1097, 1325 (hinged), C21, used #551-554, among numerous others.
The collection is further enhanced by inclusion of a separate section showcasing Soviet Republics, adding geographic breadth beyond just Russia proper. This nice and well-organized collection with most spots already filled is equally attractive to the collector seeking a comprehensive Russian foundation from Imperial through Soviet eras and to the dealer or accumulator looking for organized material with strong catalog backing across classics and Soviet issues. Condition throughout is generally Very Fine, mint never hinged. Note that only the early portion to mid-century and tail end showcasing Soviet Republics have been photographed as a small preview of this massive collection.
